What We Grow

Milkweed plants are essential to monarch growth and survival, so the planting of them has never been more essential. They are characterized by their milky white sap that comes from the plant. In the United States alone, there are over 70 species of milkweed, and in Arizona there are 30 species. As a non-profit, we grow (_) species of milkweed plants, found all throughout Northern America. We have grown over (_) milkweeds, and that number is constantly growing with each season. While we grow many different species of milkweeds, we have highlighted four of the most common milkweeds we grow that are found throughout Northern Arizona.

Showy Milkweed
Asclepias speciosa

Showy Milkweed is a beautiful perennial milkweed, that gets to around 1-3 feet tall in maturity. This milkweed has star like, pinkish flowers, and flowers and flowers in May - September. It is found throughout the Western U.S, from 0 - 9000 ft in elevation . 

Pineneedle Milkweed Asclepias linaria

Pineneedle milkweed is another perennial, that is highly drought and heat tolerant. They are found throughout the Southwestern U.S, and has small, cream colored flowers. It flowers from winter to fall, and gets to be 2 to 5 feet tall. It grows between 1,500 - 6,000 ft in elevation. 

Arizona Milkweed
Asclepias angustifolia

Arizona milkweed is found only in Arizona, hence the name Arizona milkweed. It is characterized by it's thin stem, narrow leaves, and small white flowers. They can get up to 28 inches tall, and at lower elevations are an evergreen plant. They have an elevation range of 3,000 to 7,000 ft. 

Horsetail Milkweed
Asclepias subverticillata

Horsetail milkweed is a milkweed found throughout the Southwestern U.S, and parts of Northern Mexico. It has white, star shaped flowers, and narrow leaves. It flowers in June - September, and can get up to 2 to 4 feet tall. It is found at elevation ranges of 3,000 to 8,000 ft.
